As well as singing at 9.30 Mass every Sunday, the choir also perform at the Confirmation and First Holy Communion ceremonies.
At choir also sing at additional services during Christmas and Easter. For example at Easter, the choir sings throughout the Tridium including ceremonies on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the vigil Mass on Easter Saturday evening.
In addition to religious ceremonies, the choir also perform in regular concerts. Since 2007, the choir has been performing in an annual Christmas concert which attracts a large audience. This concert, performed in the spectacular setting of English Martyrs Church, a Grade II listed building, gives the choir an opportunity to show its diverse repertoire including popular seasonal tunes such as White Christmas and Drummer Boy, as well as carols such as Silent Night and Away in a Manger. Under the directorship of Sylvie Gallant, the choir perform 3 and 4 part harmonies both a capela and with the accompaniment of our talented musicians. For an excerpt from our Christmas concert, please click here to listen to Ring Christmas Bells.
In 2016 for the first time, the choir ventured beyond the splendour of English Martyrs Church to perform a selection of popular Christmas favourites at the local pub – The Manor Arms. We hope that this will be the first of many such seasonal performances.
The choir also present a summer concert, on alternative years, usually as part of the Streatham Festival. In previous years this has included a Beatles medley, as well as popular gospel, folk and jazz songs. The choir’s rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic Hallelujah, in 4 part harmonies, was a show stopper in our 2015 summer concert.
The choir can be hired to perform at weddings and other special events. But because of our busy schedules, please contact us well in advance to discuss availability and repertoire.
